Fairmont Hot Springs, BC
This is easily one of my favourite places in the world!! I have been coming here forever because lucky for me, my parents have a place here. I have so many special memories in Fairmont; snowboard trips with my friends, my first getaway with Dan, the place we first said I love you to each other and where we got married, also the first weekend getaway with our kids and so many family trips. I love it so much!!
Normally we stay at my parents place, however, this weekend it was FREEZING so we decided to stay at the actual Fairmont Hot Springs hotel so that we didn’t have to drive and go outside as much. It ended up being a great decision and such a fun stay.
Fairmont is about a 3hr drive from Calgary and a fairly easy drive. The ‘worst’ part is the 1hr you are on highway 93 because it has no cell service, no radio, no gas stations, nothing. You need to be prepared before you get on it. Gas tank full, Music available, Netflix shows downloaded etc. The best part though is it is soooo beautiful and there are almost always animals on the side of the road, which is a highlight for the kids.
Once you’re there it has a very small town feel and you might wonder what the heck you are going to do, but there are so many fun things! Like skating, skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, snowshoeing and hot tubbing in the winter and boating, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking, swimming, zip lining, golfing, tennis, farmers markets and much more in the summer!
Radium, Invermere and even Kimberly are close by if you need some variety. We go into Invermere all the time when were there. The downtown is ADORABLE and there are so many unique local shops and restaurants. A few of my favourite stores are OM Organics, Inside edge and Rainbow Donkey Kids Clothing. Invermere isn’t like Banff with so many collectible type spots, there are actually stores that you want to buy things from…lol.
But back to the Fairmont Hot Springs…
The hotel itself is older and has a very rustic feel, but that is part of what we love about it. It has such a welcoming charm. Our room was a 2 queen with a kitchenette and it was $150 so very reasonably priced!
Fairmont Hot Springs Hotel amenities:
- Steamers cafe – coffee & pastries
- Antlers at the lodge – “fancier” restaurant
- Bearspaw bar & grill- pub vibe with really good food!
- Natural Springs Spa- I got a facial and it was amazing
- 2 hot springs pools- a smaller, quieter one and a larger one with a deep pool, colder pool and diving boards. Also, a poolside snack bar and lounge chairs.
- 3 different golf courses
- Activity and Experience centre- to plan hiking, kayaking, etc.
- Fairmont hot springs Ski Area- the perfect place to teach your kids to ski
- There is also a small park, tennis courts and in the summer sometimes a bouncy castle and pony rides.
- Also has a RV park if that is more your style in the summer!
**Note: Because of the weather we didn’t go into the other, bigger, public hot springs pool. This is the smaller private pool for hotel guest only.
We will eat at the hotel and it is good food, however, if we are going to go for coffee we’d rather go to Kicking Horse Cafe in Invermere, if we are going to go for breakfast I’d rather go to From Scratch, lunch I’d go to Hopkins Harvest, for dinner I’d go to Birchwood and if I just wanted a snack I’d go to the Circle Cafe in Invermere. Also in the summer Tony’s Greek Grill (Fairmont) and Gerry’s Gelati (Invermere) are both amazing! The food here will surprise you! So many mom and pop spots with homemade food that is delicious.
Our stay was amazing and with so much fun, family things to do in the area it is definitely a place to try. It is close enough to the city that it’s easy to do a weekend getaway and it has such a slow, easy going vibe that you will come home feeling refreshed. What more could you want!
We love it!!! But… I think I mentioned that 😉
We will be going to Fairmont and Invermere many more times so follow @theyycmom on Instagram or Facebook to see more of our times there!
